Geography - Changing the shape of a river.
What an interesting lesson today as the children learnt how rivers can change their shape.
First, the children looked at what happens when erosion takes place. This process wears away the riverbank as the water is flowing quickly and has lots of energy. As a result, the river widens its banks and the channel gets deeper.
Then, the children looked at how deposition occurs. Deposition is when the river takes items from one place to another (deposits). Here, the river flows slowly and it doesn’t have much energy to carry its items. The items are deposited, making the channel shallower.
Really great discussions today year 4. Well done.
